Ball Turret
The interior of the Sperry ball turret, also called the 'belly turret' is shown above. Many high-tech items made and designed by Sperry were also produced by contract by many other companies. IBM, today a large computer manufacturer, made Sperry ball turrets and Sperry bomb sights during the Second World War. Also, the large gunsight (seen in the above picture as the square-like piece jutting into the top of the circular window) was designed by Sperry and built both by General Electric and, incredibly, Chrysler.
The exterior of the ball turret as seen from the inside of the aircraft.
